Welcome
Hello, my name is Michiel, I
live in the Netherlands.
As long as I can remember I had an interest in history, and world war 2 in
particular.
At a very early age I started to read just about every book I could get my hands on.
I haven't been able to figure out where this fascination originates from, and
stopped wondering about it.
A few years ago I first got aquainted with re-enactment at the
Ginkel Heath, which was a droppnig zone for Operation Market-Garden.
I found a Living History group in the Netherlands and went to see what they
were all about.
It was nice to find out that I wasn't the person with the same
fascination for this particular time in history.
Struck by the virus, I soon started to drag all sorts of smelly old
surplus items into the house.
I have joined them in 2008 and
have been at a number of events.
When looking for information and items
for the collection, sooner or later you'll get in contact with veterans and/or
relatives.
And so have I.
Through these contacts I've learned about these "boys" that were sent halfway
acroos the world to fight.
Even though this happened 65 years ago, we cannot allow ourselves to forget
the sacrifices these men made.
Looking at the news today we see similar images of troops serving far from home.
Sadly nothing seems to have changed.
The purpose of this site is to pay tribute to the life and times of a few WWII
Allied Airborne troopers in particular. In general I salute every soldier who,
at one time has fought for his country
It is by no means a complete story.
But I hope it will continue to grow steadily.
I hope you will enjoy
browsing through my site.
Don't hesitate to
contact me if you have
any questions or drop me a line in the guestbook.
Cheers!
Michiel
